Most delivery drivers end the day with an empty truck. That's not the case at Kaladi Brothers Coffee Company where drivers in Anchorage end their shifts with a truck full of used cardboard, plastic bottles, milk jugs, glass, newspaper and paper products. Employees from Kaladi Brothers haul used items from all 10 Anchorage locations to the Anchorage Recycling Center on a daily basis.
The commitment is just as strong at the cafes in Soldotna where the mother of an employee takes all the materials to the recycling center on a regular basis. But that's not all.
The Kaladi Brothers Seattle Cafe takes advantage of the city's amazing recycling programs as well. Why? The company is committed to the community - and that includes helping to keep the environment pristine.
Alaskans are above the national average in producing garbage, approximately six pounds of trash each day. That trash adds up and often spills into plain sight, ending up in greenbelts and along highways.
"At Kaladi Brothers, we are dedicated to reducing the amount of waste we produce and recycle what we can. We hope that we can make a positive impact through both our actions and our commitment to be a catalyst for community," said Tim Gravel, president.
In addition, your local roaster is helping to spark new growth throughout the city. Every summer, Kaladi Brothers gives coffee grounds away. Coffee grounds are great for composting, gardeningand are often used as a fast-acting liquid fertilizer.
“The business community continues to grow the recycling effort in Alaska. Kaladi Brothers is not only reducing waste at all their locations, they are encouraging other businesses and residents to do likewise," said Mary Fisher, executive director of Alaskans for Litter Prevention & Recycling (ALPAR). "They set a great example for our community."

but it's a great start. Not having a perfect full blown program should not be an excuse not to recycle at all. If we all recycle a little bit, we can make a huge impact on improving our environment.
