1988 Whale Rescue in Barrow, AlaskaThe 1988 international rescue of gray whales trapped by the sea ice in the Alaskan Arctic near Barrow was an event we remember well (photo to the left is of the rescue in 1988). Meanwhile, Kaladi Brothers Coffee was just getting its start. The strong sense of community, compassion and can-do spirit displayed while saving those whales validated why Kaladi Brothers Coffee loves to do business in Alaska. We all get to relive that sense of community in September when a film production company will begin shooting “Everybody Loves Whales,”a $30 million movie based on the gray whale rescue attempt in Barrow.

Kaladi Brothers Coffee is stoked about a production of this magnitude coming to Alaska for many reasons. Yes, it’s pretty cool Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski (Jim from “The Office”) will be in Alaska. The Red Goat will line up with everyone else for autographs. Lights, cameras and location film shoots will no doubt be dazzling. And, prospects of economic opportunities for local businesses and individuals are exciting. Most importantly, the film production will give hard-working Alaskans an opportunity to spotlight their talents and to show the world what we have to offer.

Our great state is built on the shoulders of small business owners who work hard to build community and to make our cities better places to live. Kaladi Brothers Coffee welcomes the entire production of “Everybody Loves Whales” with open arms. We can’t wait for our Hollywood visitors to experience the hospitality, community, adventure and spirit only Alaska can offer.
